James Downey
Of Counsel
James Downey is an experienced family law attorney focusing on all aspects of family law to help clients navigate what for many is the most difficult and complex period in their lives. With his experience in civil litigation, James advocates for his client’s best interests and works to achieve positive, cost-effective outcomes through both alternative dispute resolution and the court system.
James graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2007 with degrees in History and Political Science before matriculating to the Appalachian School of Law where he obtained his Juris Doctor in 2011. James was admitted to the North Carolina State Bar in 2011 and has practiced in general civil litigation since then with a focus on family law beginning in 2017. James has also been admitted to the state bars of Michigan and Florida (currently inactive).
When not in the office, James enjoys cooking for his wife and daughter, engaging in cooperative projects with friends and family, and spending time with his dogs.
